Giant Steps is not a good example of sheets of sound. Try Russian Lullabye instead or in classical music Caprice en forme de Valse by Paul Bonneau. (I think Paul Bonneau) Giant Steps was 16th notes. Sheets of Sound requires 32nd or
64th notes to achieve the effect. For me, it is easier to play a sheets of sound solo than a good Giant Steps solo. I have seen a bunch of theories about how Giant Steps was conceived. I’ve heard many solos on it. It’s easy to play notes on it but to make beautiful music on it is another question. It’s a tough tune and I speak for myself only but sheets of sound is a different concept entirely. Alvin Pall
