I missed Mulligan’s album “What is there to say” from 1959. In my opinion, one of the best jazz records ever produced. I still listen to it frequently.

My favorite Mulligan tracks are with Bob Brookmeyer – his valve trombone and Gerry’s sax just flow back and forth as one. West Coast jazz!

Great list, have to agree that Jeru was looking forward from the past, especially the quartet with Baker. Big band composers like Bill Holman have acknowledged his lasting inspiration with regards to counterpoint and melody. Also, Jeru’s late albums ‘Age of Steam’ and ‘Walk on the Water’ are so achingly beautiful that I cannot leave them unmentioned. But ‘Birth of the Cool’ was Jeru’s, to the extent that Miles declined participation when it was re-recorded in 1992. How can anyone look past this?

I don’t usually comment on these types of lists, but I think you left out one of Mulligan’s best or at least my very favorite. Night Lights.
