I think Take Five is what keeps Brubeck off these Top Jazz Pianist lists. It’s his best-known piece but, after the intro, the piano gets sidelined by the sax and drums. So, if you’re not familiar with the rest of his work, or if you think your readers aren’t, you pass on Brubeck.

Isn’t Michael Petrucciani worth to be included ? There is no discussion about Oscar Peterson or Keith Jarret ,Thelonious Monk or Duke Ellington capabilities and creativity but Petrucciani and Brubeck must be a part of this list.

I have seen Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, as well as Dave Brubeck (for me, ho hum), Earl Hines ( much more important, than he is given credit for, and one or two others who were pretty good. From the past I might add Fats Walker, Count Basie, Jelly Roll Morton, and one or two stride piano players from the past. Your choice is pretty good.
