You over looked another born and bred Philly Jazz man the Great Charles Earland, who I saw live several times. He needs to be on the list
peace & blessing from the Jazz Mecca forget about NY, not many home grown talents, Monk, Rollins , anybody else. I mean heavyweights

There were many great R&B styled jazz and blues organists that were playing at that time. You should look into Booker T & the MG’s for songs such as Green Onions, Time is Tight, Soul Limbo, and Melting Pot.
Also try to find songs by Charles Earland who played some pretty funky jazz and released a great extended version of More Today Than Yesterday which I heard first on a jazz radio station in 1975.

Aside from trying to find the tune you heard on jazz radio that sounded like a pop song, you should dig deeper into other Hammond B3 organists and seek out artists such as Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Tony Monaco, Reuben Wilson, Joey DeFrancesco (and his dad, Papa John), John Patton, and Lonnie Smith.

His ability to weave in and out of Duane Allman’s, Dickey Betts’ and even bassist Berry Oakley’s melodic riffs was nothing short of amazing.

Must have been a “greatest hit” organ track. Not blues, it was more breezy, modern, pop sounding. Any idea?
