I’m sure you hear and see on YouTube the new Jazz sound that is coming out of London( My take is they all was associated with Amy Winehouse, ), like Yussef Dayes, Snarky Puppy and Alfa Mist which utilizes Hip Hop and Techno house music with a Jazz take.
The thing I took away from what I was hearing is that ANY new music is by default, Jazz.
But what Jazz offers is a freedom, or a gift to civilization. It began in New Orleans, but unlike the genres, it continues to grow. Jazz is alive. As you point out. It’s the only genre that takes a new idea and incorporates into what’s already there.
And took it from America to grow in London, or Brazil, or East Africa..and it’s no longer so much about racial equality and its now gender equality as well.
Afro Mist is a comglomration of maybe 10 players, equally divide between male and female, Blacks and Whites, American, British, South America, African, and Asian.
And when they’re playing they can all play multiple instruments. Shifting from drums to guitars, from keyboards to vocals, from vocals to bass.
And it creates a likable dance beat that’s also deep enough to keep older guys like myself interested.
Once this movement takes hold, which I believe is already showing up in the latest top ten…how is THAT going to be classified?
I belong to the ANY new sound is going to be based on/from Jazz .
So this new thing I’m hearing coming from London is what is going to drive music for a long time.
